Cost Justification for the Auditor Training Course

The following chart presents some factors that can be included in a cost justification for the purchase of the "ISO 9001:2008 Auditor Training Course and Forms."

You may print out this page and enter data that relates to your situation.

1. Companies seeking certification to the ISO 9001:2008 standard sometimes send the Management Representative and the person who will manage the audit program to a 5-day Lead Auditor Training Course.

Why? These people attend the course to learn how audits are conducted and what must be done to set up and manage an audit program.

The standard fee for a Lead Auditor course ranges from $1600.00 to $1800.00. You may need to add travel, hotel, and expenses to this fee.  Locate a Lead Auditor Training Course offering on the internet to determine the location and cost.  If someone from your organization would need to attend this course, enter the approximate total cost.

______________ Course fee
______________ Travel cost
______________ Hotel - 4 or 5 days (if applies)
______________ Expenses (if applies)
______________ Total - Also enter total in next column.

Note: The ISO 9001:2008 Auditor Training Course and Forms includes the information that the person who manages the audit program needs to know to set up and manage an audit program.  This course also contains all the materials for setting up the audit program.  These materials are not included in a Lead Auditor Course.

If you attend a 5-day Lead Auditor Course, you will need to create the materials for managing the audit program after you return to work.

Additional advantage when you have the Auditor Training Course:
Some companies report that they have lost the person who managed the audit program.  If your company loses the person who manages the audit program, the Auditor Training Course and Forms will be available as a training document for the new Audit Program Manager.
________
2. The Audit Program Manager will need to create the forms that are needed for the audit program.   Basic forms and the minimal time needed to create these forms are shown below:

Audit Schedule Form (15 hours)
Audit Tracking Form (20 hours)
Lead Auditor Qualification and Evaluation Form (10 hours)
Auditor Qualification and Evaluation Form (10 hours)
Audit Assignment Form (20 hours)
Corrective Preventive Action Request Form (15 hours)
Audit Report Form (15 hours)
Database for tracking the status of corrective actions (10 hours)
ISO 9001:2008 Checklist (500 hours)
Develop a method for identifying which ISO requirements apply to a process (40 hours)

The minimal time to allocate to research and create the above forms is  635 hours (about 4 months) if you do this work yourself.

Multiply 635 hours times the hourly wage of the person who will create these forms.

635 X __________ (hourly wage) = ___________
Enter the total in the next column.

Note: The Auditor Training Course and Forms includes the above forms and instructions for what to enter in each entry space on the forms.  It actually takes longer than 635 hours to create these forms.
________
3. Determine the cost to train a single auditor using an outside provider.   The fee for an Auditor Training Course can range from $650.00 to $1,200.00 for a 2 or 3 day course.   Determine the cost of training courses offered in your area. Add travel and expenses (if applies).

Multiply this cost times the number of auditors to be trained.

_________ (Training course fee and expenses) X ________ (number of auditors) = ______________

Enter the cost to train auditors in the next column.

Note: The Auditor Training Course and Forms allows you to train as many employees as you wish to conduct audits at the site license location. This training course has a minimum useful life of 8 years.

Most organizations report that they lose half their audit team each year for various reasons.
________
4. This training course contains many sample documents and forms that are used to illustrate what the ISO 9001:2008 requirements mean. These documents and forms may be edited and used as part of your quality system or for training purposes.

Print out Part 1 and Part 2 of the List of Exhibits.
